ICYMI: Charting a Path Forward for Abortion

On December 6, NoHLA joined Cedar River Clinics, Legal Voice, Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates – Washington, Pro-Choice Washington, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network and ACLU of Washington in sponsoring a panel previewing Washington efforts to protect abortion access in the upcoming legislative session.

ACLU-WA Executive Director Michele Storms moderated a discussion with Maru Mora-Villalpando of La Resistencia, Seattle Councilmember Tammy J. Morales, Dr. Jennifer Chin of Cedar River Clinics, and Danni Askini of Gender Justice League highlighting how the fall of Roe has devastating and far-reaching results that disproportionately exacerbate systemic barriers to care for communities of color, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, undocumented immigrants, young people, those living in rural communities, people with disabilities, and people with low incomes.

Courtney Normand of Planned Parenthood Alliance Advocates and Leah Rutman of ACLU-WA and  shared priorities in the 2023 legislative session for reproductive health advocates to protect and expand access to abortion in Washington that include:

  • ending cost-sharing for abortions
  • protecting abortion providers and those seeking abortions from criminal penalties
  • ensuring personal data is not sold and there are guardrails in place for sharing personal data
  • protecting abortion provider licensing and keeping malpractice insurance affordable
  • improving oversight of health care mergers and affiliations to prevent limitations on reproductive, end-of-life and gender-affirming care.

NoHLA stands with these organizations in support of the protections and improvements needed to ensure that abortion, end-of-life, and gender-affirming health care are safely, confidentially, and easily accessible.
