On Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Northwest Health Law Advocates joined Families USA and consumer advocate partners from key states for a virtual press call to spotlight the rate increases likely to impact 2027 shoppers buying health insurance from the Affordable Care Act marketplace.
Washington state has the highest proposed premium rate increase thus far, averaging 22.4% for individual plans. If approved, 2027 would be the third year in a row that Washington consumers would face double-digit increases.

VIRTUAL PRESS CALL TUESDAY: Real-Time Update on 2027 Proposed Double-Digit Premium Rate Increases
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, August 4 at 12pm ET Families USA and consumer advocate partners from key states are hosting a virtual press call to spotlight the sticker shock from insurance rate increases families will likely face yet again when shopping for Affordable Care Act marketplace health plans for 2027.
Initial rates published on state department of insurance websites indicate consumers will once again face double-digit rate increases for health coverage, with some states going up to 22% in 2027. This follows major rate hikes for 2026 plans, which were triggered by the passage of HR1 last year—legislation that weakened Medicaid, reversed coverage gains, and left millions without insurance. In addition, Congress has failed to extend the expired enhanced premium tax credits, further creating uncertainty in the market and driving costs. Families USA is tracking the proposed rate increases in real time.
Speakers will discuss implications for consumers both nationally and in key states such as Washington, which has the highest proposed premium rate increase thus far, and how families can mitigate the financial impact during the fall open enrollment period. Speakers will also discuss the details of these rate spikes, the rationales, and the potential remedies.
