In Their Own Words
More than 1,500 Washingtonians responded to our early 2026 survey, which asked:
What do you want to tell lawmakers about your health care priorities?
Health care is not a luxury for immigrant families—it is necessary to work, care for our families, and stay healthy.
Cuts to Apple Health Expansion would cause real harm, forcing people to delay care until emergencies. Many of us already struggle with language barriers, fear, and long waitlists. Stable and comprehensive coverage helps prevent higher costs later and keeps communities healthy.
Affordable care is still out of reach for many people and even when they have insurance because surprise bills add up fast.
We need Apple Health Expansion to stay strong.
Cuts will hurt families.
Please protect prescription and dental coverage, shorten wait times, and make sure our information is never used against us. Healthcare is dignity.

What is Apple Health Expansion (AHE)?
In Washington state, Apple Health is our version of Medicaid. It is a federal program, administered by states, that provides health coverage for people who meet certain income and other eligibility requirements.
Apple Health Expansion (AHE) is a landmark program launched in July 2024, following years of advocacy from NoHLA and other community leaders. This Medicaid-like program is for Washington adults who are not eligible for Apple Health due to immigration status and also do not qualify for federal assistance programs. Enrollment in AHE is capped due to funding, which is determined by the Representatives and Senators elected to our state legislature.
