What’s At Stake In November Initiatives

Everyone knows there’s a great deal at stake for health care in the November elections – but you may not know that several ballot initiatives could impact health care for Washingtonians.

NoHLA and many others are deeply concerned about the budget implications of proposed initiatives to repeal the capital gains tax, repeal key pieces of the Climate Commitment Act, and undermine the WA Cares long-term care program. We’ve endorsed the “No” campaigns for I-2109, I-2117, and I-2124 because if these initiatives pass, budget experts predict a steep decline in state revenue streams. We’ve seen time and time again that when the state faces a tough budget cycle, essential safety net health programs go on the chopping block. And if I-2124 passes, Washingtonians could also lose the protections of our state’s new long-term care benefit, WA Cares – learn more about why WA Cares matters from our friends at Economic Opportunity Institute. You can get more information on these harmful initiatives from Defend Washington, including easy ways to help like phone banking.
