First Lady Trudi Inslee penned an op-ed in The Seattle Times about how Washington is strengthening our efforts to expand women’s health care. In a new initiative, the Department of Health is partnering with Upstream USA to provide sustainable tracking and technical assistance to approximately 300 public and private health centers over the next four years to ensure all the women they serve are offered the full range of birth control methods, including the most effective options. The projected reach is 500,000 women. The state is not providing financial resources for the partnership, but the Department of Health and the Health Care Authority will both provide support through planning, coordination and participation in an Advisory Committee chaired by the First Lady.
