Kaiser Permanente recognizes the impact of housing instability on health outcomes. They are making $200 million in impact investments toward affordable housing in communities where Kaiser Permanente exists, which includes eight states, including Washington, and the District of Columbia. They will partner with community development finance institutions and developers to ensure people can preserve or build additional affordable housing in their communities.
A broad piece of legislation to eliminate racial and ethnic health disparities, the Health Equity and Accountability Act (HEAA), was introduced yesterday by Representative Barbara Lee (D-CA). A Senate bill from Senator Mazie Hirono (D-HI) is forthcoming. The bill would make additional investments in health workforce diversity, culturally and linguistically appropriate health care, and health promotion and prevention programs to reduce health inequalities. NoHLA joined 300 other organizations in a letter of support for HEAA to health leaders of the Congressional Tri-Caucus, comprised of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, the Congressional Black Caucus, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
