Washington State continues its Open Enrollment period until next Monday, January 15, so there is still time for individuals and families to get coverage for the remainder of 2018. Over 230,000 individuals have already selected plans for January 1 coverage via Washington HealthPlanFinder – a 35% increase over January 2017. Open enrollment in the 39 states served by HealthCare.gov ended on December 15 with 8.7 million people selecting plans, a relatively strong outcome given the uncertainty and the Administration’s sabotage. This is still lower than the 9.2 million people enrolled for 2017 coverage, but could have been far lower. Neither HealthCare.gov nor HealthPlanFinder have yet reported how many people have made their first premium payment, so numbers may still drop.
