Janet Varon, Executive Director of NoHLA, presented at a media conference last week along with King County Executive Dow Constantine, local Planned Parenthood CEO Chris Charbonneau and King County Council Member Jeanne Kohl-Welles. The event celebrated the county’s stunning 55% reduction in teen pregnancies in King County from 2008 to 2015, thanks in large part to the Affordable Care Act. Nearly 40,000 women of reproductive age gained insurance under the ACA allowing them to access and pay for contraceptives, women’s preventive health services, and other care they need. Janet outlined the importance of these ACA gains for women and voiced concern that if the ACA is repealed, women will lose their coverage and be unable to access these services. NoHLA, Planned Parenthood, and King County are committed to fighting for continued access to health care.
