Oral arguments were heard yesterday in the Braidwood v. Becerra case that challenges the provisions under the Affordable Care Act that gave the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) authority to determine which preventive services must be covered by insurance without cost-sharing.
Week #7 Legislative Update – We’re Past the Two-Thirds Mark!
It’s been an exciting session so far and we are pleased to report that several of the bills that are NoHLA priorities are still making their way through the legislative process. Yesterday was the policy cutoff for bills to make it out of the opposite house.
Preview of the Supplemental Operating Budget
As bill action wraps up over the next week, all eyes will turn to the 2024 supplemental budget. Budget activity kicked off last week with a positive start, as the Economic & Revenue Forecast Council released a slightly favorable quarterly update to its revenue forecast.

Week #5–More Than Halfway There!
It’s the fifth week of the legislative session and things are moving quickly! This past Monday was the fiscal cutoff date, so anything requiring funding that did not pass out of the fiscal committee is now considered dead. Here’s a round-up of select health care bills that could impact health access, affordability, and equity - though note this is not an exclusive list!
Next Up: Watching for the Budget
NoHLA and others are now awaiting word on the Legislature’s supplemental budget. The deadline for legislators to submit their budget requests for consideration has passed. Now, we are looking toward the forecast produced by the Economic Revenue & Forecast Council, expected on February 14th.
