New Report On Health Care Challenges Faced by Washington’s Latino Immigrants

Starting in January 2024, many more Washingtonians will be eligible to access health coverage via WA Healthplanfinder regardless of immigration status due to Washington’s landmark 1332 waiver. Anticipating this change, the Latino Community Fund (LCF) and Northwest Health Law Advocates co-authored this report, a landscape scan of Spanish-speaking immigrants in Washington, highlighting barriers to health care they experience, areas for additional outreach, and recommendations to fulfill Washington’s promise to provide equity in health coverage. The report will inform efforts to improve outreach and navigation services. Undocumented respondents reported cost was the top barrier to accessing health care; in addition, half also cited lack of interpretation in Spanish as a barrier to care.

LCF also distributed this Spanish brochure to people surveyed listing the 48 organizations who received funds from the Washington State Health Care Authority to provide free health care services for people who are under 200% of federal poverty level and are uninsured and underinsured, regardless of immigration status while funds are available.
