Last week, Medicaid expansion was approved in Virginia and four states (UT, ID, NE and MT*) will have measures on the ballot this fall. (*Montana’s current expansion is set to expire in 2019, hence the ballot measure to continue the program.)
Unfortunately, some red states continue to weaken the Medicaid program with new waivers for work requirements and other policy changes. Florida has submitted a waiver to eliminate the 3-month retroactive eligibility period for non-pregnant Medicaid adults. NoHLA weighed in on this proposed change, noting that retroactive eligibility is an important consumer protection and removing it would fail to promote the Medicaid program’s objectives.
