Looking for a way to help others access health? SHIBA is looking for volunteers!

NoHLA often hears from older adults who are looking for help with the transition to Medicare and we frequently refer individuals to the helpful resources offered through the Office of the Insurance Commissioner’s Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA). Now, SHIBA has put out a call for volunteers to join the effort. SHIBA volunteer advisors receive no commissions or other payments; they volunteer because they want to help other retirees make the best Medicare choices for their own personal circumstances. Many SHIBA volunteers have retired from state and local government agencies, labor unions, and school districts. SHIBA volunteers are trained by OIC staff to help to answer questions about Medicare and retiree health insurance.  For more information, visit the OIC’s SHIBA volunteer information page.
