Legislative Updates: One Week Left

With just one more week of the state legislative session to go, there’s so much on the line for health care in Washington. Here’s what’s happening as we count down the days until session ends March 12.

March 6 is the second chamber cut-off: the last day for bills to pass a floor vote in both chambers, the House and the Senate. Bills that don’t pass by today cannot advance this session, unless they are considered “necessary to implement the budget” because of major fiscal implications.

Bills Impacting Health Care

Below is a non-exhaustive list of bills that impact health care in Washington State, as well as their status on the morning of March 6, 2026.

Bills listed as “passed” have passed both chambers, but need additional action before they can become law. Some may need concurrent or conference to resolve differences, and all will need to be signed by the Governor.

Note that there is a lag in the legislative website, which may lead to some lagged statuses. Things are happening quickly, so we recommend checking leg.wa.gov if what you're looking for isn't yet updated here. If you have questions or suggestions, please let us know!

Revenue Bills

We're also tracking bills that that could be necessary to implement the budget. Below are some revenue or tax bills that we have our eyes on.

Taking Action

NoHLA and our partners have been busy doing all we can to protect health care for all Washingtonians in this short session. Some recent highlights and links to their details are:

We gathered 133 organizations to fight for a higher budget allocation for the Apple Health Expansion immigrant coverage program.

We partnered with 27 organizations to call for a higher budget allocation for Cascade Care Savings premium assistance.

We also rallied with allies in Olympia to reinforce the message that Washington must protect Medicaid and long-term care for immigrants losing coverage under federal cuts. Kudos to SEIU 775 for organizing!

What's Next

Stay tuned for our upcoming Legislative Wrap-Up webinar - details coming soon!

We are doing all we can to support revenue to address our regressive tax code and protect the health safety net Washingtonians count on – including supporting the Millionaire’s Tax (SB 6346) and targeted revenue until that kicks in, like a tax on insurers’ excess surplus (SB 5808/HB 2073).

No matter what happens this last week of session, our work for health justice continues. Thank you for being part of it.
