Despite concerns about his stances on health care, presidential power, and women’s and LGBT rights, his temperament, and sexual assault allegations against him, newly-sworn in Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was seated this week. Unfortunately, sexual assault survivors have been re-traumatized by the events of recent weeks.
The confirmation process raised many concerns about the imbalances in power on display– related to gender, political party, and privilege. Dr. Sandro Galeo captured the intersection of privilege and health well, recognizing that individuals born to privilege who attain leadership positions are often allowed “to make policies and pass judgments that undermine the health of those who were not born with the head start they enjoyed.”
