NoHLA has signed onto two “friend of the court” amicus briefs supporting reproductive rights:
- In Cedar Park Assembly of God v. Kreidler (9th Circuit Court of Appeals), an employer is challenging Washington’s law that requires health insurers to cover abortion. NoHLA joined the ACLU of Washington in an amicus in a brief recognizing the importance of employees’ access to abortion through their insurance plans, regardless of the employer’s religious views.
- In FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine (US Supreme Court, on appeal from the 5th Circuit), abortion opponents are challenging the federal government’s actions to increase access to mifepristone, a drug used in medication abortion. NoHLA signed onto a Supreme Court amicus brief authored by attorneys at Jenner & Block on behalf of over 200 reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations. The oral argument is scheduled for March 26th.
