Here in Washington State, immigrants are excluded from many vital public health coverage programs – which means over 105,000 individuals lack health insurance they would otherwise be able to access.
In order for all Washingtonians to access the health care we need, regardless of immigration status, NoHLA is proud to partner with Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN), and over 40 other organizations in working to improve access to affordable health care and coverage for all Washington residents, prioritizing equal access for individuals who are uninsured and underinsured due to immigration status restrictions.
We were heartened to see that Governor Inslee’s proposed budget includes an intention to create an immigrant health coverage program, but significant additional funds are needed.
Washington ranks in the top five states with the strongest economies. Yet almost two years into a global pandemic that has starkly demonstrated that our health is interconnected, immigrants continue to endure disproportionate health impacts. In a year with over one billion in expected revenue for Washington State, we can and should do better.
We invite all organizations to join us. Sign on to the Health Equity for Immigrants campaign to ensure that all immigrants in Washington have access to coverage!
