Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham reintroduced the “Health Equity and Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Women and Families Act,” which would restore access to affordable health coverage and care for immigrants who are authorized to live and work in the U.S. The HEAL act restores eligibility and eliminates the 5-year waiting period for all lawfully present immigrants to access Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It also allows recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to have access to the ACA, Medicaid, and CHIP. Dozens of prominent organizations across the country, including NoHLA, are formally supporting the HEAL act.
