Good News: Healthy Pregnancy and Contraceptive Access Bills Pass Washington Legislature

The Healthy Pregnancy Bill,  SB 5835, passed the Legislature after a unanimous House vote last week. It is now awaiting the Governor’s signature. This bill requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnant women in the workplace. The bill also establishes the Healthy Pregnancy Advisory Committee House to develop strategies for improving health outcomes for women and their infants. Read more about this bill here.

The Contraceptive Access Bill, HB 1234, passed the Legislature with overwhelming bipartisan support last week and is now on the Governor’s desk. The bill dramatically reduces barriers to birth control access by requiring health insurance plans to cover a 12-month supply of birth control at a time, allowing women to pick up a year’s worth of birth control in a single pharmacy visit.
