Recent Accomplishments
- Convincing the state to remove application barriers to family planning coverage for teens
- Brining a successful legal challenge to Medicaid's exclusion of vision therapy coverage
- Helping to pass the "Cover all Kids" state law and advocating to remove implementation barriers
Since its founding, NoHLA has:
- provided leadership for a coalition of legal and community organizations to stop improper Medicaid terminations, resulting in a nationally-recognized agreement for state compliance
- provided trainings on health insurance issues for low-income people
- co-authored a report on changes in immigrant health coverage
- advocated against Medicaid premiums for children
- addressed systemic issues in the state-funded Basic Health Plan
- represented consumer interests as the individual health insurance market was restructured
- analyzed proposed regulations implementing the Patients Bill of Rights, Medicaid managed care, coverage of physician, medical transportation, dental and mental health services
- worked for affordable, accessible prescription drug coverage
